Well, we all know that the modern eavesdropper state has been nibbling away at our privacy, but is it necessary to rub salt into the wound? By naming its latest system for gobbling up our online love letters "Carnivore," the Federal Bureau of Investigation is figuratively flipping the bird to anybody who has ever complained about the government's increasing indulgence in electronic voyeurism.
