Beware GPS equipped Rent-a-Cars

A war over words is raging between the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and Acme Car Rental in New Haven. Acme's cars are equipped with a computer system to track customers' locations and driving habits. If a renter breaks the speed limit, Acme has been imposing a $150 fine, automatically charged to the customer's credit card. The state agency charges that the wording of Acme's contract is too vague and wants Acme to stop imposing fines for speeding and return all the money it has collected.
