Pact allows US to scrutinise Netherlands Antilles

The US on Wednesday increased its ability to scrutinise tax-favourable offshore centres in the Caribbean by signing an information exchange agreement with the Netherlands Antilles.
The agreement, signed by Paul O'Neill, the US treasury secretary, and officials from the Netherlands Antilles, will allow the US access to the records of financial institutions in the Dutch territory.
The pact is similar to ones that Washington has signed over the past eight months with Antigua, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands.
